Trainee Financial Mentor

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 9am-4pm (Tuakau Office)
Thursday 12pm-7pm (Pukekohe Office)

Franklin Family Support Services is seeking a Trainee Financial Mentor (FM) to join our dedicated team helping the diverse community of Franklin. You do not need to have experience working in the finance industry but a general understanding of money and how people can fall into debt.

Our organisation is a registered charity contracted by the Ministry of Social Development to provide free and confidential services for individuals and whanau to help build financial capability. We are a wrap-around service providing Social Workers, Counselling, Budgeting, a Volunteer Driver Programme, Parenting and Domestic Violence programmes, alongside a range of other smaller supports such as JP and legal services.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and IT skills
  • An ability to work independently to manage caseloads and complete case notes to a set timeline
  • Time management skills and an ability to be flexible with changes to appointments
  • Advocacy and negotiation skills to work with creditors, Work and Income New Zealand and other government agencies
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to ensure contract deliverables are achieved
  • A commitment to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Knowledge of Te Ao Maori and Pasifika cultures
  • Knowledge of the financial sector an advantage

Full training through observations of experienced FM sessions, formal FinCap training and session supervision will be given as well as ongoing support.

Role Description                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Our financial mentor will:

  • Impart financial management skills and knowledge to support clients to reach their goals
  • Use a mana-enhancing approach to find long term solutions for their client
  • Liaise with Financial Mentor colleagues and other professionals in our service to provide wrap-around support for clients while protecting their confidentiality
  • Engage in a range of ways to support clients through face-to-face meetings, online sessions, home visits and attending other providers sites
  • Facilitate Money Mates sessions alongside colleagues
  • Represent and uphold the values of Franklin Family Support Services
  • Work well within a large team environment and contribute to the overall success of the organisation by offering support where able
  • Participate in formal FinCap FM training and dedicated to regular training to upskill their knowledge
  • Have the capability to learn and utilise our Client Management System and internal Microsoft products

Volunteer Drivers

We are always on the lookout for new volunteer drivers. This role involves picking up a client from their home and transporting them to and from their hospital appointment in Auckland. You can be flexible with your volunteering and choose your days and frequency. Some drivers drive every day and some drive once or twice a month. Mileage is reimbursed for each trip.
