Volunteering

Become a Volunteer with Franklin Family Support Services

Regardless of the motivation, volunteers find it both challenging and rewarding. If you speak to people who volunteer, they will tell you they do it because they love it. If you want to help make a difference in Franklin by donating your time and experience, Franklin Family Support would be a great place to do that. Becoming a FFSS volunteer can be a rewarding way to reach out to people and help us work with the most vulnerable in our community.

New Zealanders are a leading nation in the contribution made by volunteers. NZ volunteers contribute millions of unpaid hours of work for non-profit organisations. Volunteerism and community service are an investment in our community and the people who live in it. Volunteers create positive change on many fronts by working as little as one hour a week. We believe that working together with members of the Franklin Community we can provide the Social Services, and Education needed to positively support people in our community.

People choose to volunteer for a number of reasons.

Volunteering for some provides an opportunity to:

  • Make a difference
  • Help others less fortunate or without a voice
  • Spend quality time away from work or a busy lifestyle
  • Give something back to an organisation that makes a difference  in people's lives

For some, volunteering can be a way to employment, or a chance to try something new which may lead to a career change. Volunteering can be a way of:

  • Gaining new skills, knowledge and experience
  • Developing skills and knowledge
  • Developing a CV
  • Improving employment prospects
  • Using professional skills and knowledge to help others

For others Volunteering appeals because of its social benefits which include:

  • Meeting new people and making new friends
  • A chance to socialise
  • Getting to know more about the local community

Volunteering is an activity that involves putting your unpaid time, energy, and skills to use for the greater good. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the non-profit sector. Just about every charitable organisation uses volunteers in some capacity. Even in organisations which employ paid staff, volunteers provide a valuable service.
